Working with palliative care patients is a daily challenge and, at the same time, a unique opportunity for growth and fulfillment. It's a daily challenge to prevent and manage common and distressing symptoms, because success in alleviating these symptoms will ensure the best possible quality of life. Managing pain, bronchial rales, dyspnoea, anxiety and urinary retention, to name but a few, requires a high degree of skill. The knowledge acquired during this training course will enable you to intervene with confidence and kindness in end-of-life situations that can sometimes be very complex.
Accompanying the living person means putting them at the heart of care. That's why our team is basically made up of the patient and his or her loved ones. Despite the imperatives of the care environment, the care and symptom management must be treated with the utmost respect. Respect and humility are essential qualities.
Palliative care is not just about providing support and comfort; it must also be an opportunity for the person to live this experience with the greatest possible serenity and dignity. Accompaniment and care are sometimes fraught with situations that can clash with our values and beliefs. Coming into contact with death and suffering on a daily basis leaves no one unscathed. It's an opportunity, a time to reflect on the practice of palliative care and to give it back its full meaning.
Whether the end of life takes place at home, in a palliative care unit, in the emergency department or in a CHSLD, this training course is sure to update your knowledge and provide personalized support for the person and his or her loved ones. Evidence-based best practices will enable multidisciplinary work where the person is at the heart of care. And, to provide you with concrete tools, a variety of case studies and essential evaluation and follow-up tools will be offered in this enriching and dynamic 7-hour training course.
