Skin tones: the essential palette for accurate nursing assessment

Smiling children in a group

Assessing the skin of people with dark and yellow complexions is often a challenge.

People with dark, black or yellow complexions often have pigmentation variations that require a different approach to skin assessment. Many medical textbooks do not provide sufficient information on how to correctly assess skin condition in these populations.
Whatever the shade, it's essential that the person is properly assessed to ensure fair, quality healthcare for all.

Bruises, for example, can be difficult to spot on dark skin due to the skin's natural pigmentation. I've created a chart to help with this assessment, free of charge, CLICK HERE : skin color_table

I discovered a must-have book for nurses:

Mind the Gapp , - A HANDBOOK OF CLINICAL SIGNS IN BLACK AND BROWN SKIN - MUKWENDE M, TAMONV P, TURNER M, St Georges University of London, https://www.blackandbrownskin.co.uk/ (free guide download)

This guide includes dozens of photos to help identify skin lesions and conditions, from bruises to cancerous lesions, on black and brown skin.
