Cognitive examination of the elderly NEW 2025

169,00 $

Accredited ONLINE training 7 hours.

Description

Front-line healthcare professionals need to be aware of certain warning signs, such as memory complaints or loss of autonomy expressed by people at risk of cognitive decline. In this context, an assessment approach can be proposed. As systematic screening is not recommended, we need to target people presenting these symptoms, and open up a dialogue on assessment and follow-up with the person at the heart of care.

This dialogue cannot be reduced to a simple questionnaire. The examination of an elderly person's mental and cognitive state involves important clinical issues based on the principles of consent, respect for human rights and socio-cultural realities, and the duty to protect these vulnerable people. Assessment of cognition is an important part of functional evaluation. Identifying all the components of the mental state, including memory types, is the challenge at the heart of the nurse's clinical examination. Knowing how to distinguish the normal health elements of aging from the various pathologies of aging is the essence of this training course on the cognitive examination of the elderly.

The deterioration of cognition in an elderly person is generally due to one of three causes: a neuro-cognitive disorder, delirium or depression. This training course presents the elements needed to identify the main neuro-cognitive disorders in detail.

CONTENT to be viewed through videos presented by Mireille Guillemette, and training videos recorded with seniors:
- Identify the consequences of aging on cognition and memory types.
- Define the main CMNDs (major neurocognitive disorders).
- Use various recognized tests (MEEM MEEMS, Folstein, mini-cog, Mo-CA, Dubois' 5 words, verbal fluency, Watson's clock test, etc.) to complement the nurse's assessment of mental state.

You will be given tools to help you use the main tests used to screen and monitor people with neurocognitive disorders.
