Dysphagia is a symptom of another health problem. There are many causes: neurological, muscular or cognitive disorders, adverse effects of medical treatment, or side-effects of medication. Serious psychosocial and medical consequences follow.
Detecting dysphagia by rapidly recognizing its sometimes subtle clinical manifestations can help prevent the associated consequences. Screening must be complemented by assessment, with certain tests complementing the clinical examination.
This training is specifically designed for nurses, nursing assistants, dietitians who are members of the OPDQ, speech therapists AND anyone caring for adults at risk.
