Statistical data currently available are imprecise, but the prevalence of pressure ulcers is said to be over 20% in Hospital Centers in Canada. At CHU de Québec, a prevalence study was carried out in 2019. The average age of affected patients was 71. Pressure ulcers and traumatic wounds were the 2nd and 3rd most common types of wound.
For the adult population, and more specifically for the aging population suffering from chronic illnesses, the risk of wounds is increased. The presence of wounds has major psychological, physical and financial consequences for the individual. Whether the injury occurs in the context of a fall, at the end of life, or affects an autonomous and active person, this training course will enable you to update your knowledge.
Among the 17 activities reserved for nurses is wound care. It is the nurse who establishes the treatment plan for wounds and skin alterations. The initial assessment of the patient is the starting point for the treatment plan for wounds and other skin and integument injuries. The nurse has full authority to modify the treatment plan as the wound evolves. Wound prevention, assessment and care are therefore part of the nurse's daily routine.
Evidence-based best practices will enable multidisciplinary work in which the individual is at the heart of care. And, to provide you with concrete tools, case studies including photos of wounds, as well as essential assessment and follow-up tools, will be offered in this enriching and dynamic 10-hour training course.
Are you a nurse? This training course will enable you to assess and draw up treatment plans independently.
Are you a nursing assistant? This training course will enable you to fully exercise your role as a contributor to wound assessment and care.
Are you an occupational therapist, nutritionist, social worker or other healthcare professional? Teamwork has been shown to have a clear effect on reducing the onset of disease, shortening recovery time and reducing recurrence.
