You attended the first part of this training during a synchronous webinar. Here is the continuation of your training. You can complete it at your own pace.

Clinical evaluation is at the heart of our work and poses many challenges today.

What most often allows a diagnosis to be made?

  1. the anamnesis
  2. the physical examination
  3. the diagnostic tests prescribed by the doctor?

Answer: 1- Anamnestic history (70 %) followed by 2- a physical examination (15 to 20%).

Diagnostic tests (10 % to 15 %) will most often confirm your clinical impression and allow the doctor to confirm a diagnosis.

This training will enable you to:

  • to assess an adult who is presenting with a new symptom to determine the degree of urgency and the appropriate course of action;
  • to adapt the clinical examination to the available time by selecting what is most relevant;
  • To apply a structured and rigorous approach that enables safe care and personalized interventions  when the context allows for a brief clinical evaluation and a targeted physical examination;
  • the assessment in the context of follow-up (HTA, MPOC, delirium, etc.)

The population is aging  And this places many constraints on the healthcare settings that serve this increasingly large population of older people suffering from chronic illnesses and major cognitive impairments. The assessment of the physical and mental health status of these people, and all the clinical decisions that result from it, must be based on evidence-based data in a context where aging is heterogeneous.

You will have the tools to

  • recognize the normal effects of aging and its physical and mental manifestations
  • adapt the history and clinical examination taking into account difficulties in communicating or mobilizing.
  • Adapt practice to the current context of care and effectively determine the severity of a condition in a person who does not present with the usual symptoms of common clinical manifestations.

This training is based on the teachings of Philippe Voyer; the main references are his latest works.  The concepts are supported by the evidence.
