Dementia: myths and reality

Dementia: myths and reality

Myth: False belief often based on a part of reality, shared by several people. We multiply this belief in good faith, because we are certain of its veracity.

I want to present you with the current state of knowledge about the true risk and protective factors of dementia. See the table below.

It is largely the life choices we make that will influence our health status.

This puts us at low risk of developing dementia at an advanced age:

  • Exercise
  • Mediterranean-style diet
  • keep your brain active
  • control of diabetes and hypertension, screening and treatment of depression
  • Weight and health

You are thus doing two things at once, because what is good for your brain is also good for your cardiovascular health. In addition to reducing your risk of dementia, you reduce your risk of stroke and heart problems.
